A Little Diverse Reading…
Freedom’s Knife by Daphne K. Moore is a welcome addition to the genres of fantasy/dark fantasy and dystopian futures. As the first volume in the Justiciar’s Redemption series, it introduces us to an eerily familiar yet completely changed world, where old gods, resurrected magic and new — and deadly — invaders have pushed the boundaries of class and division to a state of almost medieval sensibility.
The rich characters and the fantastic imagination of Ms. Moore make the story a compelling and irresistible read, building a world of magic and beauty and horror, of polictical intrigue and corruption, in which history and mythology have been perverted almost — but not quite — beyond recognition.
“This spirit wasn’t of the spring, it was of the river. Its span covered a huge area, not as great as the Ohio, but more than enough to reverberate through my bones. Strong and cold, the current ran through my mind.”
I highly recommend this book and its author to anyone who likes their fantasy dark and meaty, and who longs for more going on than just a surface quest. You can read more of this author’s work at her website: https://daphnekmoore.com/
