In this strange time of literature transition, between traditional publishing and self-publishing, ink on paper and digital copies, we are seeing all the petty and not-so-petty ideas of criminal intent in industries that are just finding their feet.

The following article came to my attention today, and I wanted the writers I care about to at least know of these quicksands, even if there’s not much that can be done about them immediately.

I hope that as delivery systems and trust in the end products grows and matures in the publishing industry, writers will find themselves protected again in the name of keeping originality and the unique talents of voice and imagination safe, to lead new visions of what might be. I can, however, see a future of dwindling interest and ability, reduction of variety and diversity, if such publishing practices continue to fail the writer.

It would benefit all involved in publishing, from writer to the reader at the end of the line, to ensure that knowledge and skill, meaning and care continued to define our written works.
