I did waver about using the commentary, though the character, in close third, uses her knowledge as a barrier to emotion, a means of distancing herself from what might transpire by a dry, academic recounting internally and in slowing down her actions through that same mechanism. Slow and plodding is better than rushed on emotion in those situations.
