I find it somewhat devastating that at a time when people have the technology and ability to share the full spectrum of knowledge, imagination, experience and talent, the same technology is used to repress, mis-identify, malign and attempt to force others into a path pre-determined by a few.

Fiction has ever been contentious and pushing at the boundaries of what society tolerates, almost always with the result that tolerance has broadened as a result. There is always the same reason for condemning and burning books. In my view, the skills of the author presented a clear characterisation, and it was not a specific definition of a type of person but the mismatched conglomeration of many different traits that make up a person. It was not a cardboard cutout designed to represent a group. Perhaps the problem really lies in the reading and comprehension. I don’t know. I’m deeply saddened by this.
