I have, enraptured by a story, written to the author with no larger agenda than to give thanks and been delighted in correspondence. Those efforts were in a time when writing letters was done on paper, with stamps and a wistful hope in the postal systems of many countries. Now it’s much easier to thank the writers who move me and give me their precious treasures of words, and perhaps there are more writers who receive a note from grateful readers, or perhaps not.
