I wonder how reading is processing for those who don’t visualise internally with the stimuli of language — scene descriptions, the playing out of scenes, the expressions and gestures of characters — how do these manifest in your enjoyment of a story? For me the process seems a multi-layered experience of words becoming visualisations, words being absorbed at a deeper level of meaning that draw on memory, associations, references etc, and conjuring subconscious reactions that are entirely beyond the editorial part of my consciousness to include the most visceral reactions — emotion, sensation etc.
