In the case of the successful story, that’s true, there’s no way to determine how it came about, it often feels true because the internal logic, the characters, even the more outlandish demands of plot show none of the work that went into the creation.

Conversely, I’ve been able to tell exactly what someone has done in creating stories when the works are not quite as successful.

But the main point was indeed that there isn’t a single way.
