That's an interesting, and - given the incredible stupidity of Medium's developers - quite likely theory. It disappoints me dreadfully to even consider such an idiotic way of calculating read times and reads for stories but that is nothing new on this site.

So far, Medium started out with a model that worked well and have periodically trashed it to efforts that do less and less for their content providers. Much like Amazon. Ho hum.
