Your Friends @ Medium, can you explain the reasoning behind the latest change to our account pages? Are you hoping that combining Latest with the Profile tab will somehow lessen your workload? It might — readers might find it so hard to look through their favourite writer’s work now that it’s jumbled with comments they might leave the site completely. It’s hard to believe that’s your intent.

The account page, occasional glitches notwithstanding, was functioning perfectly well. The Profile link provided the last few stories and comments, interested readers could see at a glance what someone has clapped for and highlighted, and they could move across to Latest to drill down more deeply into that writer’s work, or investigate the writer’s preferences as shown by highlights and claps. The Latest tab allowed us constant readers to just view the real stories, the ones the writers have worked and sweated on. We could look in the Claps tab for recommended works, check out the Highlights tab to browse for memorable phrases and read the writer’s comments on the stories that moved them.

Why — WHY!?! — have you screwed that simple enough system up?

When I find a new writer, I want to read their stories — ALL their stories. I scroll down to the bottom of their Latest list and start working my way up. I DO NOT WANT those stories to be jumbled in with hundreds or thousands of comments. I read here for content, not commentary.

Return the previous layout. It worked. It was simple. Please. Listen to your users. We’re the ones at the front lines.
